I am re-doing my room really soon and while looking for color palette ideas and decor inspiration I came across adding a chalkboard wall to a room! It might sound a bit complicated but it's not at all! You simply have to paint the wall with special chalkboard brush on paint and voilà!
You can actually draw with chalk right on your wall! This is a great idea if you're trying to change up a room and don't want to spend too much money on decorations, or don't want to do too much. Imagine all the things you can draw and write on your wall!!? You don't even have to buy art, or hang too much on it, your drawings make the perfect decor. For me personally, having a chalkboard wall in my bedroom will allow me to draw and write daily inspirations to surround myself with everyday. Plus you can change it up whenever you want, just erase and start all over!
Black can be an unusual color for a room but just make sure it doesn't make it too dark and add a pop of color here and there with an accent wall or decorations. It can give an elegant touch to any room done the right way!

In terms of adding color, remember The Rule of 3 when decorating an interior space. If you're adding a pop of color make sure it is repeated at least 3 times around the room so it's balanced and cohesive! For example, if you have a mint accent wall make sure to bring in the Rule of 3 and repeat it two more times somewhere in the room. It can be in a piece of furniture, painting, or even in a small way like flowers or a small vase!
- Adding a pop of color is easy! It can be done by hanging paintings or pictures frames on your darkest wall, or simply have one colorful piece of furniture that will stand out like the coffee table above. Have a plain colored table or chair? Spray paint it a bright color!
- Add accent pillows in bright colors and fun prints to brighten up a darker room. For example: All the furniture in my bedroom including my bed's headboard are black or dark brown, even my comforter is a black and white, so I plan on adding bright accent pillows in pink, mint, and silver in my room to contrast with the black chalkboard wall and my darker furniture!
- I love the way mint can brighten up a room and how well it goes with black and brown. Bright colors and metallics like the ones in the color palette above, are also a great compliment for mint. It looks good with everything, I love it!
- Accent walls are the best way to start pops of color in a room! I plan on painting a mint color wall in my room to contrast with the chalkboard wall and my dark furniture! You can get creative and make a design, or paint it all one color.
